This accredited course provides participants with the practical skills and knowledge required to safely participate in rescue operations as part of a team, supporting specialist rescue activities.

Through hands-on training and realistic simulated emergency scenarios, participants will develop the ability to follow instructions, use rescue equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE), communicate effectively, and apply safe work practices in dynamic and potentially hazardous environments. The course covers a range of rescue situations across diverse settings, including industrial, rural, bush and other challenging conditions.

This unit is suitable for individuals working or seeking to work in emergency services, volunteer organisations, emergency response teams, and industries such as construction, mining, utilities and event operations, where teamwork, situational awareness and safety are critical.

Course Delivery

This course can be delivered/assessed in the workplace or at facility organised by the training provider.

Course Durations

Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.

Refresher face-to-face contact time of at least 4 Hours
Face-to-Face face-to-face contact time of at least 7 Hours

An individual undertaking this course with Allens Training Pty Ltd will need to demonstrate the following to be eligible for entry: 

  • An official form of photo identification (e.g., driver’s licence, passport, or student ID).
  • Physical and psychological capacity to safely participate in practical training and assessment activities across a range of rescue environments (e.g. confined space, industrial, road crash and vertical rescue scenarios). This may include activities such as: entering, exiting and working in restricted and/or elevated environments; climbing, crawling, lifting, carrying or dragging equipment or simulated casualties; wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), including harnesses and other rescue equipment and; operating in potentially challenging conditions (e.g. low light, confined, noisy or physically demanding environments)
  • Protective slip resistant footwear/safety shoes and comfortable/practical clothing must be provided by the student and worn during the practical sessions and assessment. 
  • To successfully complete this course, students will need to demonstrate the following language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) skills during training and assessment:
    • Learning: Follow instructions and apply rescue procedures to keep myself and others safe in stressful situations.
    • Reading: Read and interpret emergency signs, maps, or written instructions to help determine where to go or what action to take.
    • Writing: Fill out forms, write short notes (such as field notes or incident reports), and clearly record key details from work tasks
    • Oral communication: Communicate clearly and listen carefully when receiving or giving instructions, especially in team-based, noisy, or time-sensitive situations
    • Numeracy: Use numbers to support safe working operations, for example, measuring distances for scene setup, fall clearance, and interpreting equipment ratings
    • Digital Literacy: Able to use a mobile phone or basic device to read messages, follow online instructions, complete online forms or access learning resources


Please Note: This unit has a pre-requisite requirement of HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (* only if undertaking training related to the fire sector).

*The fire sector is those sections of government departments, statutory authorities or organisations that have a responsibility under jurisdictional arrangements for the delivery of firefighting and fire management services.

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks.

Documentation – The student must complete the following documentation:

  • Risk Assessment form
  • Rescue Equipment form
  • Incident Report form

Theory assessment – A written assessment consisting of short-answer and multiple-choice questions

Students are required to complete a self evaluation against the following core skills as part of the enrolment process. This will allow your trainer to understand any additional support that may be required during the course delivery and assessment.
